[The sad truth about the Haditha Massacre as perpetrated by American troops on Iraqi citizens is emerging](, thanks in no small part to the military’s incompetence in disposing of classified information. (Really, a cache of documents dumped in a junk yard?) The New York Times reporting is very well done, trying to find what few sympathetic notes there are for the Marines who did it. The truth is, you cannot win a guerrilla war in a land you only plan to occupy temporarily. Time becomes a weapon under such circumstances. (Perhaps the Chinese are the masters of this, having decided that they will permanently occupy Tibet, and thus making time into their weapon against Tibetan society and culture.)
